Just one more sleep until the new year. Yes, we said one. Let’s be honest, who is actually going to sleep the night in between years? With this in mind, there is one more thing we need to talk about before January 1st and that is how to keep your New Year’s resolutions.
Last time we talked about some of the resolutions every successful woman should set herself in 2019, but the most important part of this ordeal is ensuring that you actually do something to meet them. While setting some time aside to write your resolutions on a piece of paper, on your phone or even your laptop (we are not judging) can be fun, meeting these resolutions is less so.
In order to accomplish what you have set to accomplish, some work is required. This is the reason why so many people feel discouraged at some point during the year and simply give up. However, this can be avoided.
How to keep your New Year’s Resolutions
You know what they say: ‘Rome was not built in a day’. Well, the same applies when it comes to adopting and sticking to a resolution. In order to change your behaviour or even to adopt a new one, you must start small.
Behavioural changes are no joke and they take time. For this reason, it is pretty normal to get frustrated after a while, especially if you fail to see any changes. However, by starting small you are more likely to notice some changes as well as feel a small amount of pride and this helps to keep you motivated. It gives you an incentive. Also, do no forget that no matter how small the change, it is still a change.
Don’t think about the past
Maybe in the past you failed to keep up a resolution or two. That is nothing to be ashamed of, we’ve been there once or twice so we get you. Things like these happen, but the point is to let the past stay in the past and focus on what is ahead instead. Regret takes too much of your energy, energy that is better used in making sure you will accomplish what you have set out to accomplish. Plus, the past is often a bad predictor of the future so do think about this as well.
Don’t go at it alone
Another way in which you can ensure that you will keep your resolutions is by finding yourself a support group. Talk to your best friend about what are you are set to accomplish and maybe even team up so that you can hold each other accountable. You are more likely to keep up your resolutions if you feel like you would fall short or worse, feel like you would disappoint someone other than yourself.
Don’t let setbacks get in your way
Another important thing to remember is that setbacks will happen every once in a while. There is nothing to be ashamed of, nor is it something you should allow to stop you from achieving your goals.
If you do have a setback, reflect on what went wrong and learn from your mistake. Afterwards, move on and continue with your journey. The important thing is to keep making progress.
These are just some of the things that have worked for us in the past. We hope that you found our tips on how to keep New Year’s resolutions helpful. If you have other tips to add, do leave them in a comment below.
All the best and don’t forget to kick a** in 2019! We believe in YOU!
